Effortless weight loss. No, I’m not trying to be funny. It’s the one question I’m getting most, and is the main issue that comes up when I ask people what they want help with when getting, and staying fit and healthy.
In England, most people are overweight or obese. This includes 61.9% of adults and 28% of children aged between 2 and 15. People who are overweight have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. Excess weight can also make it more difficult for people to find and keep work, and it can affect self-esteem and mental health.
Health problems associated with being overweight or obese cost the NHS more than £5 billion every year.

Most people, so the statistics tell us, are overweight. Some more than others, that’s true. So I guess it’s only natural to be aware that we need to lose weight. But, to do it sensibly and to build habits we can continue in our everyday lives, we have to think of easy ways to create effortless weight loss.
If weight loss seems effortless we’ll enjoy our lives more rather than fretting won’t we? We won’t be so focused on “Am I allowed to eat this?”, or, “How many calories are in that?”. If we can lose weight without much effort, the habits will surely stick, won’t they?
So how do you achieve Effortless Weight Loss then?
- Make things easy for yourself.
- Cut down on the amount of food you eat, gradually.
- Don’t give up all your favourite foods, or treats, all at once.
- Eat less processed foods.
- Increase the amount of exercise you do every day, in stages, so it’s not a shock to your system.
- Cut down your alcohol intake. Ideally set alcohol free days during the week.
- Have a buddy to keep you on track, (we can help you if you’d like someone independent – get in touch to discuss what would suit you).
- Set a start date and let everyone know so they can support you.
- Cleanse your body so that it can process food and nutrients more effectively.
How I’ve achieved Effortless weight loss
Those of you who’ve been following my journey, will know that my weight loss started with a 9 day cleanse. I lost 11lbs over those 9 days, and have lost another 4lbs since that programme finished. My friends and family think I’ve lost a lot more than that as my body has changed shape since the start of the cleanse, and overall, I’ve lost another 4cm from my waist and 6cms from my hips. Remember, it’s not all about what the scales say!
The 9 day cleanse started off good habits that I liked, and found easy to integrate into my daily life. I think of my overall day and eat accordingly. If I know I’m going to meet a friend for lunch, I’ll ensure I have a small breakfast, and drink lots of water, so I can enjoy my lunch out. If I know I’m not able to do much activity, (lots of meetings, or travelling in the car), then my daily food intake will be less than when I do an hours run in the day.
Everything I learnt on the 9 days I’ve stuck to – drinking 2 litres of water a day, being aware of food intake, and exercising at least 30 minutes a day. I’m loving it! I feel so much fitter and healthier, and a friend’s Mum who saw me yesterday, said, “Wow – your skin looks so clean & you’ve lost so much weight. You look fabulous!” I’m obviously chuffed to bits! You can ask my family if you like, they’re pretty amazed too!
However, overall, the small changes we’ve made have affected all of us and even my husband, who also needs to lose weight, has benefited from more salads, vegetables and fruit to snack on. Sometimes I’ll make two dinners for the family, so the boys can get all the fat and protein they need for their growing bodies. But as it’s all planned in advance, it’s just what we do.
